A fake Facebook account has been created in the name of the Bangladesh Bank Governor
A Facebook account has been created in the name of Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, through which friend requests are being sent to senior officials of various banks. Those who have accepted the friend requests are being asked for various information, and in some cases, recommendations and favors related to banking services are being requested. The central bank has advised everyone to be cautious of such fraudsters.
An official notice regarding this has been issued on the Bangladesh Bank’s website.
Executive Director and spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank, Husne Ara Shikha, stated that a Facebook account was recently created using the Governor's name, and friend requests have been sent to officials of the central bank as well as other banks. Some of those who accepted the requests have been approached with various banking-related recommendations and solicitations. When the matter was brought to the Governor’s attention, he clarified, "I do not operate any Facebook account. An account was created in my name a long time ago, but it is no longer active. Therefore, any Facebook account created under my name is fake."
Following this, the central bank issued a warning notice. The notice stated that it has been observed that fake accounts have recently been created on social media platforms using the name of Bangladesh Bank’s Governor, Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur. The public is urged to stay alert and avoid being misled by such accounts.
